Scouts on Celebrate Adventure

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts of Sleaford District Scout Council got together in Sleaford as part of their annual celebration of scouting and St. George.

Following the parade there was a short service held at St. Deny’s Church, during the service members were reminded of the adventures of last year and encouraged to look forward to the adventures of the summer and beyond - we even had a little archery session in the church (never give a vicar a bow and arrow).

Ian, District Commissioner, commented “St. George’s Day is a highlight of my scouting year, not only do we as a District come together to celebrate scouting, but we also get to say thank you to our leaders and supporters – as well as remind the public that we are here and still going strong” during the service a number of awards were presented to leaders in recognition of good and outstanding service.

Local Explorer Scout, Bethany (17), explained that “St. George’s day is an important day to Scouts, it reminds us that it is more than just another club, where you go climbing or kayaking, have a go at archery or gliding, but also make a positive contribution to our community”.

On St. George’s Day members of the Scout Movement worldwide remind themselves of the promise that they have made – a promise to do their best, to help others, and to follow the scout law.
